Professional career:
Matthews entered the world of professional mixed martial arts at the tender age of 18 in September 2012. He competed for regional promotions within the Greater Melbourne area and boasted an unblemished record of 7–0 before earning a spot in one of the most prominent organizations – the UFC.
With an astounding current record of 19-6-0, including notable victories achieved through knockout, submission, and decision wins, Matthews continues to leave a lasting impression on fans and opponents alike.
2023:
While preparations were underway for an upcoming bout against Gabe Green scheduled for May 13, 2023 at UFC on ABC 4, fate intervened as Matthews suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the fight. Nonetheless, Bryan Battle stepped up to replace him.
Undeterred by setbacks, Matthews was set to face Miguel Baeza at UFC 291 on July 29th later that year. Unfortunately, Baeza withdrew due to undisclosed reasons. However, a deserving newcomer named Darrius Flowers courageously seized this opportunity to step into the Octagon against Matthews. Ultimately it was Matthews who emerged victorious by securing a remarkable rear-naked choke submission triumph during the second round.
Upcoming Fight:
Looking ahead with determination and focus on continued success in his career trajectory is Matthews's next challenge – facing Michael Morales at UFC Fight Night 232 scheduled for November 18th later this year.
