Munawar Rana, Renowned Urdu Poet, Passes Away at 71 Due to Cardiac Arrest

One of the most celebrated poets of India, Munnawar Rana, breathed his last on Sunday at the age of 71. He had been suffering from a prolonged illness and was undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow. As per various media reports, Rana succumbed to a heart attack.

Munawwar Rana was a prominent Urdu poet, who was known for his powerful and thought-provoking poetry that addressed social, political, and cultural issues. He had published several collections of poetry and had received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014 for his poem Shahdaba. He had also returned the award in 2015 in protest against the rising intolerance in the country. He was a popular figure among the masses and had a huge fan following. He is survived by his wife and five children.
